The stages are: * Set the S16 in position * Add ethernet link * Connect the inputs and outputs * Configure the link [[s16Setup|Detailed instructions]] ===== Sound Check ===== Connect the inputs to the X32 Desk / S16 Snake, plus main and monitor speakers. [[suggestedSetup|Suggested Setup]] ==== Display setup ==== The small LCDs on each channel can be configured to display the function associate with them, eg the inputs can be set to say things like "Vocal", "Guitar", etc and also display an icon associated with the item. The colour of the display can also be changed to help differentiate different items, eg make all vocal mics green, guitars blue, keyboards yellow. The procedure to set up the display is: ^Step^Description^Notes^ |1|Press "Setup", and scroll to the Scribble Strip page.| | |2|Select the channel / bus you want to configure, and then select the colour, icon and enter the name.|Choose your own colour scheme and stick to it, making it easier to spot when working live. | |3|It is recommended that any unused channels have the display set to black, so that they are not a distraction | | ==== Mute Groups ==== There are 6 buttons in the Mute Group area, which can be set to mute selected channels, eg mute all instruments, mute all except house mic, mute effects, etc. ^Step^Description^Notes^ |1|Select the "Mute Group" button on the display area (Area D) | | |2|Press and hold a Mute Group button, and then select the channel to mute by pressing the relevant "Select" buttons| | |3|Repeat for other Mute Group buttons| | |4|Deselect the "Mute Group" button on the display area (Area D)| | **Suggested configuration** ^Mute group^Channels muted^Description^ |1|Mute all instruments, NOT microphones|Useful between songs for tuning / instrument changes, etc| |2| | | |3|Mute all except house music| | |4| | | |5|Mute All|Used to mute ALL inputs| |6|Mute effects| Used to turn off effect between songs| ==== Gain settings ==== The first stage is to set up the gain and settings for each input channel. ^ ^Step^Notes^ |1|Press the View button in the Config/Pre-amp area to bring up the relevant screen (b)|{{::gain.jpg?300|}} | |2|Select the input channel you want to set up. Make sure you are on the right Channel set, ie 1-16 or 17-32, by pressing the relevant button next to the sliders| | |3|Move the channel slider to Unity / zero| | |4|Adjust the Gain using the Gain Knob to get the required input level (a) - do this either by ear or using the input meter on the display| | |5|Repeat for all other inputs| | Note: During this stage, you can select which channels need Phantom Power - press the 48V button to switch it on (button illuminates when on). The "O" button is used to invert the phase of amicrophone - this is only really necessary when two mics are picking up the same item, and one mic is out of phase causing the sound to be reduced. ==== EQ Settings ==== The EQ panel is located at the top left of the X32 desk, as shown below: {{::eq-panel.jpg|}} You can access the screen menu by pressing the View button in the Equaliser area. The easiest way so assign an EQ to each channel is to select a preset setup embedded in the desk: * Select the channel you want to assign the EQ to * On the menu area, select the Library button. Along the left hand side of the screen, select the elements to be loaded (Usually just Equaliser) * Scroll down the list of options to find the nearest instrument / voice and load * Adjust to suit the actual input, eg if you have loaded the Female vocal, adjust the low level cut to a lower frequency. === Notes === |Vocal - Male|Low cut off frequency|100Hz| |Vocal - Female|Low cut off frequency|75Hz| It is useful to cut a little around the 220Hz frequency ==== Adding Effects ==== To add an effect to a channel: |Select the channel to apply the effect to| | |On the Bus Sends area, select the 13-16 bank by pressing the lowest button \\ Note: 9-12 is shown selected in the image|{{::bus_sends.jpg?300|}} | |Adjust the Bus Sends 13 & 14 which are predefined with effects (14 has Reverb) - these are the 2 lower knobs| | Note: add a Mute button to Bus Sends Ch 13 & Ch 14 to switch off effect, by: * Select "Bus Master" * Select "Mute Group" * Press and hold a Mute button, say "5" and then select Ch 13 & Ch 14 * Unselect the "Mute Group" button ===== Performance ===== Assuming a single act... ==== Things that may turn up ==== |Adjusting monitor mix|This is done in a similar manner to the effects, except select the Bus Masters 1-4; select the channel and then turn the knobs which are then used to dial the channel into the monitor mix bus.| |Adjusting the performance mix| |
