Display setup
The small LCDs on each channel can be configured to display the function associate with them, eg the inputs can be set to say things like “Vocal”, “Guitar”, etc and also display an icon associated with the item. The colour of the display can also be changed to help differentiate different items, eg make all vocal mics green, guitars blue, keyboards yellow.
The procedure to set up the display is:
| Step | Description | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Press “Setup”, and scroll to the Scribble Strip page. | |
| 2 | Select the channel / bus you want to configure, and then select the colour, icon and enter the name. | Choose your own colour scheme and stick to it, making it easier to spot when working live. |
| 3 | It is recommended that any unused channels have the display set to black, so that they are not a distraction |
Mute Groups
There are 6 buttons in the Mute Group area, which can be set to mute selected channels, eg mute all instruments, mute all except house mic, mute effects, etc.
| Step | Description | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Select the “Mute Group” button on the display area (Area D) | |
| 2 | Press and hold a Mute Group button, and then select the channel to mute by pressing the relevant “Select” buttons | |
| 3 | Repeat for other Mute Group buttons | |
| 4 | Deselect the “Mute Group” button on the display area (Area D) |
Suggested configuration
| Mute group | Channels muted | Description |

| 1 | Mute all instruments, NOT microphones | Useful between songs for tuning / instrument changes, etc |
| 2 | ||
| 3 | Mute all except house music | |
| 4 | ||
| 5 | Mute All | Used to mute ALL inputs |
| 6 | Mute effects | Used to turn off effect between songs |
Gain settings
The first stage is to set up the gain and settings for each input channel.
Note: During this stage, you can select which channels need Phantom Power - press the 48V button to switch it on (button illuminates when on).
The “O” button is used to invert the phase of amicrophone - this is only really necessary when two mics are picking up the same item, and one mic is out of phase causing the sound to be reduced.
EQ Settings
The EQ panel is located at the top left of the X32 desk, as shown below:
You can access the screen menu by pressing the View button in the Equaliser area.
The easiest way so assign an EQ to each channel is to select a preset setup embedded in the desk:
- Select the channel you want to assign the EQ to
- On the menu area, select the Library button. Along the left hand side of the screen, select the elements to be loaded (Usually just Equaliser)
- Scroll down the list of options to find the nearest instrument / voice and load
- Adjust to suit the actual input, eg if you have loaded the Female vocal, adjust the low level cut to a lower frequency.
Notes
| Vocal - Male | Low cut off frequency | 100Hz |
| Vocal - Female | Low cut off frequency | 75Hz |
It is useful to cut a little around the 220Hz frequency
Adding Effects
To add an effect to a channel:
Note: add a Mute button to Bus Sends Ch 13 & Ch 14 to switch off effect, by:
- Select “Bus Master”
- Select “Mute Group”
- Press and hold a Mute button, say “5” and then select Ch 13 & Ch 14
- Unselect the “Mute Group” button
